Here you will find archaeological evidence that tells of human settlements since prehistoric times, with a continuous dialogue between civilizations that lasted until the Middle Ages. Numerous Nuragic sites, domus de janas and dolmens tell of communities spread over the land and on the reliefs of this region.
Among the most significant finds are the sacred Nuragic areas of Sos Nurattolos in Alà dei Sardi, located on the slopes of granite rock formations, and the domus de janas of Biralò, Borucca, Ludurru and Oltulò in the territory of Buddusò, all immersed in landscapes of woods and plateaus that convey a tangible sense of historical continuity.
These traces are added to the nuraghi of Loelle and other structures, as evidenced by the archaeological studies on the megalithic and pre-Nuragic civilization widespread in the area, which offer the visitor a cultural map in which each hill or valley preserves a chapter of the ancient history of Sardinia.

Nature and environments: woods, hills and forests
Nature is an integral element of this region. The Monte Acuto Forest Complex, divided between the territories of Tula, Pattada, Buddusò, Oschiri and Berchidda, includes forest areas of high naturalistic value with forests of holm oak, cork oak, pine, Atlas cedar and chestnut, and represents an important green lung for the biodiversity of Northern Sardinia.
Not far away, the Monte Lerno Forest is another remarkable landscape example: spread over 2,853 hectares at high altitudes, it is characterized by evolved Mediterranean scrub and relict species such as holly and maple tree, and invites you to nature trails, trekking and discover native vegetation.
In elevated positions such as Alà dei Sardi, the ridges of the Alà Mountains offer breathtaking views, with the possibility of admiring valleys, wooded slopes and, on clear days, glimpses ranging from the Gulf of Olbia to the peaks of Corsica.
Villages, communities and human landscape
Monte Acuto is, first of all, a community area: small towns such as Ozieri are configured as historical centers of reference, where Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance testimonies intertwine, while towns such as Pattada are famous for typical handicraft productions, in particular the art of traditional knives, a symbol of local know-how that strongly expresses the material identity of the territory.
Berchidda hosts important cultural events, such as Time in Jazz, an international festival that attracts artists and audiences from all over the world and integrates local tradition with contemporary cultural languages, creating a dialogue between music and landscape in a unique context.
Other villages, such as Mores, Ittireddu, Nughedu San Nicolò, Nule, Padru and Tula, each tell a plot of stories, rural architecture and spiritual elements in the urban fabric, with ancient churches, alleys and squares that preserve the memories of the communities.
A region between Logudorese and Gallura
Historically, Monte Acuto is located in an area of cultural transition, located between the influences of Logudoro to the west and those of Gallura to the east, reflecting the encounter between different cultures in dialects, collective practices and the landscape itself.
This position of geographical and cultural summit has meant that, despite having no clear administrative boundaries, Monte Acuto has always been a point of connection of roads, exchanges and cultures between the interior of the island and the nearby coastal areas, profoundly influencing its collective identity.
